Middle School Information Session
At École Mosaic, every action counts towards a more sustainable future. Sustainability runs through daily school life, as students, staff and families work together to care for their environment on campus and in the local community.
This long-term commitment has been recognised with the international Eco-Schools Green Flag, proudly awarded to École Mosaic since 2024. It continues to develop as learners lead meaningful projects that make a real difference for our planet.
In just three years, our students have turned sustainability into everyday actions – not only at school, but out in neighbourhood parks and playgrounds too. Children lead litter-picking projects, track and reduce waste, and keep local green spaces cleaner and more welcoming for everyone.
This student-led commitment to a greener community was recognised in 2024, when École Mosaic proudly earned the international Eco-Schools Green Flag award.
Since 2024, our students have been focusing on water usage to understand better how to conserve and manage its use within our school and beyond.
Research and auditing
In 2024–2025, students ran whole-school surveys, collected data and carried out real-life observations to understand how water is used. They analysed this evidence to spot patterns and priorities, then used findings to shape a focused action plan for the next stage.
Action and lasting change
From summer 2025, children put that plan into action. They tested practical solutions, raised awareness and tracked measurable improvements in water use. By June 2026, the aim is ambitious: visible changes in daily habits and systems that stay in place for future year groups.
Collaboration at every level
Sustainability is present in every aspect of school life. An Eco-School Committee of students, teachers, staff and parents reviews the research and decides on next steps together. Class and teacher representatives share updates, so that every class, in every year group, has a voice and a role in moving the project forward.
Global connections, local impact
Students connect their work with Eco-Schools, J’aime ma planète and the ISP ILOS Changemakers programme, joining a wider network of young environmental leaders and witnessing how local choices on campus contribute to bigger sustainability goals.
Beyond the classroom and into the community
Learners act as co-researchers with teachers and families, taking ideas and strategies home to reduce water usage in daily life. They share discoveries with siblings, neighbours and friends, inspiring adults too.
Our award-winning Litter & Waste Project allowed learners to take a hands-on, evidence-based approach to understanding and reducing waste in our school.
Students began by investigating waste and litter across the school. Through whole-school audits and surveys, learners measured how much waste was being produced and explored how well the community understood the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Once the results were in, children used their data to shape concrete actions. Recycling collection points appeared in every classroom, litter-picking sessions were organised in local parks and playgrounds, and everyday routines in school were adjusted to improve waste management.
Reduction of food waste
In the canteen, students weighed and recorded food waste at lunchtime, then created graphs and charts to spot patterns and trends. Learners also practised separating food from packaging to keep composting clean and effective. Through these real-world investigations, children became active changemakers, helping to build a more sustainable school environment for everyone.
As one of the best international schools in Geneva, students lead the way on sustainability through the Eco- School Committee. From 3P, they step up as class representatives to drive eco-projects across the school. Committee members meet regularly, share updates with their classes, gather ideas and feedback, and turn these into real actions on campus and beyond.As students lead initiatives and speak in school assemblies, they grow in confidence, practise clear communication and feel a strong sense of responsibility for their community and their planet.
