Middle School Information Session
At our private Primary School in Geneva, children aged 6 to 12 (3P – 8P) build strong academic foundations and grow into confident, independent learners following our bespoke bilingual French – English curriculum. Bespoke bilingual curriculum
Students consistently achieve excellent academic results, supported by École Mosaic's bespoke curriculum which blends the Swiss PER with the Cambridge International curriculum.
Life skills
Learners are equipped with future-ready skills through the ISP Life Competencies framework supported by Camtree, part of Hughes Hall at the University of Cambridge. Each year group presents a self-evaluation where they evaluate their progress, set goals and reflect on achievements.
Performing arts
Students grow in confidence and develop their communication skills through specialist-led theatre and music lessons. In our end-of-year school production they showcase their talent and progress in front of family and friends.

Students progress with École Mosaic’s bespoke curriculum, which blends the Swiss PER and the Cambridge International Curriculum. Learners move confidently between French and English, with one full day in French and the next in English. Specialist teachers enrich their programme with lessons in Music, Theatre, Physical Education, Science and German.
Discovering the world through words
At our Primary School in Geneva, students deepen their skills in French and English, moving from consolidating decoding, sight vocabulary and early encoding to using reading and writing as powerful tools for thinking and communication. They practise speaking in full sentences, expressing and debating opinions and expanding the academic vocabulary needed to access all subjects. Reading widely for pleasure, they explore fiction, non‑fiction and poetry.
Step by step, children learn to plan, research and present ideas both independently and collaboratively, producing increasingly sophisticated oral and written work in both languages reports, projects, stories and poetry, and using cursive writing to organise and communicate their thinking clearly.
Developing logical reasoning
Learners enhance their numerical understanding and fluency, moving beyond simple calculations to a strong sense of number value and how numbers relate to each other. They handle real objects, use visual models and then work with symbols to make sense of operations including multiplication and division.
Regular problem‑solving in real‑life contexts helps them choose efficient strategies, explain their thinking and apply maths flexibly, with a classroom culture that values risk‑taking and learning from mistakes supports all pupils, including high‑ability learners, to tackle new mathematical challenges with growing independence and confidence.
Ensuring well-being
At Mosaic School, learners develop technique, teamwork and confidence through adapted team games, athletics and cooperation and opposition games. In 3P and 4P, weekly swimming sessions over eight weeks build confidence and strength in the water and overall fitness.
As they move up the school, children gain independence and positive leadership skills through varied experiences such as using the Sous‑Moulin facilities (6P – 8P), biathlon sessions (5P – 6P) and a sailing camp (7P), engaging in team and cooperative activities that promote fair play, perseverance, sportsmanship and growing autonomy.
Unleashing creativity
Learners build solid musical foundations through a highly practical programme. They are introduced to simple notation and reading, quickly connecting what they see on the page with playing instruments. Vocal skills and voice control are developed as pupils sing regularly, listening as they identify who is making a sound and what they can hear in it.
Alongside this, they explore a variety of instruments, experiment with composition and improvisation, and enjoy regular opportunities to perform.
Owning the spotlight
As one of the best Primary Schools in Geneva, students develop as confident speakers, with clear articulation, posture and stage presence, thanks to a wide range of theatrical and voice‑placement games, playful voice‑transformation activities and public speaking. From 4P upwards, they contribute to the development and performance of the much-loved annual school show.
This experience helps them use their voice and body more effectively, express emotions, collaborate with others and perform in front of an audience with growing assurance and confidence.
Developing confidence in a third language
At our bilingual Primary School in Geneva, students start German in 4P, one year earlier than in the state system. Low‑pressure lessons “tune the ear” through songs, rhymes, movement, games and simple role‑plays, so that children can naturally absorb sounds, rhythm and everyday expressions.
They progress in an action‑oriented, communicative setting, exploring essential vocabulary, basic grammar and German‑speaking cultures while developing listening and A1‑level oral and written skills. Learning is focused on creating a smooth transition to Middle School and nurtures a positive attitude towards plurilingualism and intercultural curiosity.
Understanding the world and our place in it
History develops the children's understanding of their city and the wider world through an inquiry-based approach. Students learn to ask insightful questions, evaluate evidence and establish reasoned interpretations of information, while developing historical perspective and judgement. The curriculum also builds understanding of key concepts such as continuity and change, cause and consequence, and significance, while encouraging reflection on identity, society and the present day.
History and Geography are closely linked to wider projects, including multicultural themes and science, and approached in a multidisciplinary, bilingual way that connects with art, music, maths and literature, making the past and the world around us feel vivid and relevant.
Creating with purpose
Learners use the art room to experiment with 2D and 3D techniques, including painting and printing. Art is linked to class projects, fostering creativity and personal expression.
Growing as responsible individuals
At Mosaic School, students deepen their social skills and sense of citizenship by developing self-awareness, collaborating with others and engaging in respectful debate. Core values of kindness, collaboration, resilience, creativity and respect form the basis of our teaching.
The conflict resolution programme, Kelso is used to give children the skills needed to navigate relationships. They solve problems together and take responsibility for their community, including their behaviour online.
Exploring, questioning and connecting
Pupils from 5P onwards engage in a science programme based on the Swiss PER and taught by a specialist teacher. Each year group presents their learning on a particular theme to parents and carers.
Science is put in real-life contexts and develops critical thinking so students can identify reliable information. Teaching is designed to give learners a holistic and interdisciplinary understanding of a broad range of science-related topics.
Every day at École Mosaic is full of discovery. Students enjoy an engaging learning programme that balances very focused activities with more unstructured time to explore with classmates.

In English, 3P students complete the Salford Reading Test and follow the Oxford Reading Tree programme. From 4P onwards, they sit GL standardised assessments in English and Maths, alongside the Swiss Évaluations Communes tests in 4 and 8P.
Results show consistent excellence: by the end of Primary, all learners are working at or above the expected standard, with many significantly exceeding it. The strength of our curriculum and the quality of the learning enable students to achieve the score required for the top stream of Middle School.
Each learner leads a self‑evaluation meeting in March, “learning how to learn” as they reflect on progress and agree clear next steps with their teacher and parents. Two report cards a year, regular assessments, project presentations, Padlet and the Seesaw app keep families fully informed and involved in their child’s learning journey.
Guided self‑evaluation helps students understand how they learn best, set clear academic and social goals around resilience, collaboration, organisation and kindness, and talk clearly about their strengths, challenges and next steps. École Mosaic’s core values are woven into projects and ILOS activities, so children continually “learn how to learn” as they grow in independence, motivation and perseverance.
From 3P upwards, roles in the Eco-School Committee and House committees in the older years, the children lead environmental and school‑wide initiatives, strengthening communication skills, a sense of responsibility and developing a concrete awareness of their impact on others and the planet.
At our bilingual Primary School in Geneva, learners enjoy a rich bilingual pathway in French and English, moving from solid foundations to confident communication. They develop decoding and sight vocabulary to read with growing fluency, speak in full sentences, share opinions and build academic vocabulary through project work. Step by step they move into cursive, work across subjects in both languages, switch confidently between them, and read, write, debate and present with increasing depth and precision.
German is introduced early as a third language from 4P with a playful, fully oral start, then progresses to an action‑oriented programme aligned with the PER, building A1‑level skills.
Home languages are valued throughout, with literature, festivals and creative projects inviting pupils to use all their languages in class, fostering pride in their linguistic identity and seeing multilingualism as a strength.
Pupils connect with classmates across ISP through International Learning Opportunities for Students (ILOS), such as ISP Artists, ISP Chess Masters and ISP Scientist. As Eco-School class representatives many students also join the ILOS Changemakers – Sustainable Campus project, leading research and action on themes including waste, recycling and water usage. The Kangaroo Maths competition allows them to meet and compete with peers from around the globe.
Students also join themed trips abroad, with a focus on environmental impact, sailing, medieval history and local culture, including our yearly two‑night Voyage de Cohésion in the French Alps in 4P.
The annual Multicultural project starts from simple celebration of different cultures to critical, student‑led exploration. Younger children share their own cultures and languages through stories, songs and classroom events, often involving families to present traditions and customs. As they get older, pupils begin to research and compare different cultures in more depth, making links to humanities and languages.
By the end of Primary, children use their learning to examine different perspectives, discuss similarities and differences and present thoughtful, well‑informed reflections to the school community.
Theatre
The Theatre project evolves from playful participation at the start to full creative ownership. Children build strong collaboration and performance skills, helping to shape scenes, roles and staging for the popular annual show.
By the time they are older, pupils are closely involved in the creative process – from interpreting themes linked to the curriculum to refining acting, movement and voice – culminating in a major end‑of‑year production that they help design and lead.
Science
The Science project develops from hands‑on discovery to more structured, student‑driven investigation. Younger learners explore real‑world questions through guided experiments and observations, often linked to themes such as water and the environment. As they progress, the children take more ownership of how they plan and record investigations, connect their findings to scientific concepts and link their work to Eco-School goals.
As they move through the school, children design aspects of their own experiments, interpret the results with greater rigour and take the lead in presenting their conclusions to parents and the wider school community.
